Web 2.0 and the Foreign Language Classroom

Examples in the Lovett Middle School

Spanish 7th and 8th Grade (Maria Croley's Classrooms)

I am using voicethread with my 8th grade classes to facilitate TPRS teaching (total physical response storytelling) and reading / listening comprehension. I have created voicethreads and recorded questions for the students to respond to (they record responses written and orally), as well as I asked each student to write a story based a photo / picture they have uploaded and record the story in Spanish onto VT. I then asked the students to listen to their friends' stories and write comments in Spanish on VT.

In the next few months I plan on continuing to use VT with the 8th grade, and open up the VTs to other Spanish speakers for them to comment on the students' work.
I recently introduced the website to my 7th graders, and we will resume after Christmas break. They have not yet recorded anything- I have only shared VT as a reading comp/ visual tool with them since they are new to the language. They are very excited about it!

Both groups of students enjoyed using the website, and it is so easy to monitor. I love it!
